They are one of the greatest parties of India. Their leaders were not ordinary persons but were one of the greatest personalities of modern India. They have the politics in their genes. They have ruled almost 60 years in free India. Still their position now is no more than the sidelined, bigoted traumatized old man with no formal saying in any family matter. Certainly the Congress party has lost its confidence, they have no moral and the word called 'hope' on which entire leadership virtually ruled India for decades.
The Modi government is initiating reforms like a machine which is producing results continuously. Even if it does not produce results, they have the men who can prove that it is producing results. Modi has given international boost to foreign policy and domestic reforms. He has won the confidence of Indian as well as foreign investor in quick succession. A strong body of industrialist and their capital is backing him like a fire engine whose direction only needs to be steered up. Same time, his criticism about Congress party that it lacks the required leadership is proving to be correct. So there is no doubt that the challenges before Congress are enormous and difficult one.
The Congress party has lost its hope and need to initiate reforms quickly. They have to look at new leaders who have that courage to defend the party in a difficult circumstances. They must decentralize the decision making for some time. They must pack up the leaders who have become no more than just the item boys. In all this premises, there seems to be some leader on whom they have to depend.
First one must be Jyotiraditya Sindhiya, an MP from royal family of Madhya Pradesh. Since party's historical loss, it was Jyotiraditya Sindhiya whose statements were not being flawed by the media. On 16th of may he stood like a brave soldier defending the organization when others were hiding their faces. Also during the first session of parliament, it was his voice which dominated the whole house. The MPs from Madhya Pradesh became hesitant to disturb when he used to talk.
If Jyotiraditya Sindhiya is armed with some important post then there is a great chance that he would put a new discipline in the party. The state of Madhya Pradesh, respects him. This respect comes from both the aspects, one off-course is a natural respect and another is fearful respect.
Another change which party needs to do is to bring Priyanka Gandhi on central stage. On the premises of failure of Rahul Gandhi, she seems to be great option who can connect with people with that age old weapon of typical Gandhian charm. We have seen during the election that media took a great interest in her every comment and it carried a significant weight-age. Opposition will have to be very careful before launching any serious attack on her. She have that feminine character of her grandmother with a heart of lion. Her popularity in the party can not be denied. Its only the fear of Miss Soniya Gandhi that the party's people are hesitant to talk about Priyanka. Otherwise they will feel a kind of revival if she comes on main stage.
One another thing which Congress needs to desperately do is to remove some leaders whose image is trolled in the social media. For example party doesn't need any leader like Digvijay Singh who just randomly comment on anything to everything. Digvijay's comment had no sense, he carries a significant part in the defeat of the party. Specially his close relation with Rahul Gandhi paved the way for bad image of party as well as that of Rahul Gandhi himself. Party needs to understand that leaders who are not connected to the bottom cadre and only act as a policy maker needs to be kept away for some time. It need people who can connect and can form great internal discipline along party line.
The politics of wait and watch is not useful in the scenario of great opposition. What Soniya Gandhi wants is to promote the leaders who are really capable of fighting opposition. They have to stop demotivating the politicians who have that potential to bag highest position in the party. Instead of offering them inferior posts, what Congress wants is to motivate the leaders even if some of them possesses danger to family.
Congress needs to pump oxygen in the lower cadre. They need to promote the person on the basis of talent. They need to forget the vague concepts which restricted sons of politicians from contesting the elections. It has been realized that the Rahul Gandhi's method of restricting sons of MLA's and MP's from contesting the election has totally failed. If someone possesses the required talent then he will automatically grow in the party, irrespective of the fact whether he is son of politician or not.
Challenges ahead are enormous. Modi has industrialist, bureaucracy and new young generation on his side. BJP is on the verge of creating political structure whose roots have beginning to penetrate very much deep. The powerful reforms and the aura of Modi seems to be difficult to tackle. But the Congress party should not become afraid. They should believe in their instincts and act accordingly. There are thousands of leader in the party who will go to any extent if high-command shows confidence in them. And what high-command wants is to reduce some ego and use some common sense if they ever want to see those glorious days back.
